After operating on a shoestring budget for years, the Nipomo Community Advisory Council has a little more money in the bank.
The council -- a 20-member body that reviews everything from backyard storage sheds to multimillion-dollar housing projects -- won a $5,000 grant from Save the Mesa. Most will go toward cleanup projects, but a few hundred dollars will be earmarked for educational materials.
The council also is in line for a little boost in county funding. Today, the Board of Supervisors will vote on allocating the annual $1,500 to cover mailing, copying and advertising, plus an additional $250 to pay for a brochure on the importance of Nipomo Creek.
The brochure will outline the harm that comes from dumping trash, yard waste and chemicals into the creek, and will be distributed to residents who live along the creek and its tributaries. Δ
